Greenham Trust commits £500,000 in funding; the new center will improve access to mainstream and supportive cancer care in the local area

Newbury, January 18, 2018 – No profit, The Good Exchangeprovided vital support to the Ark Cancer Center Charity’s mission to raise £5 million to help build a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre.

(Left to right) Ark Cancer Center charity trustees Merv Rees and Sandra Fell receive the £500,000 funding check from Ed Gairdner, Chief Operating Officer of The Good Exchange, and Chris Boulton, Chief Executive Officer of Greenham Trust.

Largely funded by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), the new center will enhance and enhance the cancer patient’s journey, providing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, complementary treatments and support services in a calming and uplifting environment.

Most HHFT cancer patients currently have to travel to Southampton or Guildford to receive radiotherapy, but the new center – likely to be built on the existing Basingstoke hospital site – will bring this treatment closer to home for more people. Providing radiation therapy and other services under one roof, the center will be a flagship facility.

The offer of £500,000 in combined funding from Greenham Trust, through The Good Exchange, has been a significant factor in the Ark’s fundraising campaign to date as many fundraisers and donors have raised or donated money, knowing Greenham will double the contribution.

Just before Christmas, Ark hit its £500,000 match funding target – and now Chris Boulton, managing director of Greenham Trust and Ed Gairdner, chief operating officer of The Good Exchange, have handed in the match funding check to Ark Cancer Center Charitable Trustee Merv Rees.

Leading consultant liver cancer surgeon Merv said: ‘We are grateful for every donation the charity receives, but the fact that people have been able to double the value of whatever they collect or donate has been a huge incentive for people to use The Good Exchange.

“There is no doubt that The Good Exchange has done well to the Ark Cancer Center Charity’s campaign to raise the £5million in funding which will be crucial to providing the cancer care center that local cancer patients and their families need and deserve.

“This generous financial support from the Greenham Trust was truly one of the most significant things that happened in our fundraising efforts for the new centre. Without it we would be nowhere near the current total of £1.8m. We are extremely grateful for the support of Greenham Trust and The Good Exchange. »

Merv added: « Although this is a significant milestone, the project still has a long way to go and we are always on the lookout for new funders and fundraisers to help us reach our £5 million target as soon as possible. »

The Ark Cancer Center Charity continues to encourage fundraisers and donors to donate money through The Good Exchange, and the charity is currently seeking new funders to follow in Greenham Trust’s footsteps by providing future blended funding support .

Ed Gairdner, chief operating officer of The Good Exchangesaid: “Using the matched funding capability offered through The Good Exchange online platform, Ark Cancer Center Charity and Greenham Trust have been able to streamline the way funds are raised for this huge programme.

« Ark Cancer Center Charity has clearly demonstrated the effectiveness and positive impact that blending funding has on charitable giving, and we encourage anyone considering supporting the project in the future to take this approach. »

Chris Boulton, chief executive of Greenham Trust, said: « We are thrilled that this milestone has been achieved and that we are now able to deliver £500,000 to the Ark Cancer Center Charity, helping it move closer to its goal of opening a local cancer cure.

“We know there is still a long way to go and we look forward to seeing more funders and fundraisers come on board.”
